William B. Murray

WEST SPRINGFIELD-William B. Murray passed into eternal life Friday, February 15, 2013. Bill was the son of the late Philip W. and Jane R. Murray, and beloved husband of Beverly Howe Murray. He was born in Winooski, VT on February 10, 1939. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart Grammar School and Cathedral High School class of 1957. He also attended American International College. Bill began is professional career at Mass Mutual Life Insurance Company and was a benefits analyst with CIGNA, formerly Connecticut General, for 42 years retiring in 2002. He remained as a consultant until January 2012. Bill leaves his wife and best friend of 47 years, Beverly, three children and 5 granchildren to cherish his memory. Krista Murray of Port St. Lucie, FL; Sean and Susan Murray, Kara, Meaghan, and Owen of Scituate, MA; Erin and Remik Mueller, Hayden and Tynan, of Granby, CT. A daughter Leslie, twin to Krista, died shortly after birth. He is also survived by his sister Lynn Kleindienst and husband Robert Kleindienst of Granby, MA, sister-in-law Jean Stoddard and husband David Stoddard of Somers, CT and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was a life long member of Sacred Heart Church. In his youth he was an altar server and in later years sang with the choir and was a Eucharistic Minister. A 42 year resident of West Springfield, he was a founding member of the West Springfield Youth Soccer Association. He also coached softball and soccer. For many years he volunteered at Baystate Medical Center as a Eucharistic Minister of Spiritual Services. Over the years, he was active in local theater, candlepin bowling leagues and was an avid fisherman. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday February 19 from 4 to 7PM at the Curran-Jones Funeral Home, 109 Main St., West Springfield. A Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Bill's life will be offered Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church, Chestnut St., Springfield, MA at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Bill's memory be made to Sacred Heart Renovation Fund, 395 Chestnut St., Springfield, MA 01104-3487, or to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.
